As the American has been, now for some years, the most popular periodical of all Hoosierdom, and every week is becoming more so it may not be amiss for s to say it few things of its distinguished editorial corps. Everybody has heard of Prentice andGarber, or Colfax and McNeely of Greely and Bennet (the last the ugliest critter ever yet elevated to the tripod) of Bill Brown and lbre (the former once upon a time come mighty nigh being, speaker of the H. F. CLARKSON. He has no tail to his name and says he doesn't want any. It is true that many of his friends in writing to him by way of compliment write the "Esqr." to his name, but he never thanks them for it, for it has long been one of his established sentiments "that beauty when un adorned is adorned the most" and hence tidy (we might add a perfect pink of a ' woman) his children are samples of l. health and patterns of irwl,.. ,.! k: ! irv, mm nis i... . . ... . j , uu . ,r everyunng and ev ervthintr in io nl.A r I i i I . s j iatr. uy uara laoorann strict economy Clarkson has become an ' ny Clarkson has become an Editor, not afraid to sneak it bit hM it t.- iit hit here it may. H,s 1,independent the truth let brary will compare with any other in rranklm County. He did not pet it to look at, but to read, and for the benefit of his family. This library and the read ing of his well-selected "exchanges" have made him largely progressive he has kept up with the spirit and wants of
the age, and in some things has led off j this pPring than ever before the sceneand become a pioneer. As a writer T 's remarkablealmost as picturesque Clarkson's superiority consists in his in- anu' grand! as the gardens of Andalusia.
telligent foresight his "american" fear-! lessness and wasp-stingino-point. Much of his editorial however is evidently writ-; ten hastily and without much regard to polish, but now and then when a subject gets hold of him and calls him out he writes with great force and rhetorical b eauty. It is a little remarkable that though Clarkson has been an Editor for over 20 years yet he, has but few personal enemies enemies he has "lots of them," but they are political. In the strife of elections Clarkson has been bitter he gives strong doses and plenty of them, but still he never was mean enough to trample upon a fallen foe. The Indiana American of which he is the principal Editor is read more esten- j sively than any p-per published in the State. Many read it every week who j have never subscribed or paid a cent for it, and though this vernaeular benevolence may keep a few hundred dollars from coming into Clarkson's pocket vet
at the same time it is one of the highest same "gain' "What's the use of compliments that these quasi friends I arnin' it only makes people rascals!" could pay him. Apropos a gentleman ' 03The members of the M. E. the remarks which Clarkson himself made about us, though we confess it Is hard to tell whether he intended the "truth" or the "poetry" for ts. (KrThere is no poetry, but much truth in the following from the Brook ville American: It has been suggested to us that we had better make Tim Thruxton principal editor of the American, as he writes better than ourself, or any of our locals. But the gentleman must recollect that it is a very easy matter to say smart things occasionally, but when the old editorial mill has been running steadily for 81 years, it must have been a large pond to supply the motive power, if it does not become exhausted. But these wet weather editorial mills, which grind only in the spring showers, can make an awful ripping for a season. Their pond is soon exhausted however, and then they have to shutdown until another shower. It is well to think of these things, and not thiow away old "grinders," who have furnished you bread and meat for so many long years. ii .

She continual nsing the medicine until she had taken five bottles of it, and considered herself perfectly well, althoagh when she commenced this medicine, her attending physician pronounced her case incurable, the was, and had been for a long time, delirious. This is to certify that I was called in to see the above named Mary Moore, during the absence of her regular attending physician, found her in a critical and dangerous condili on, and, as I thought, beyond all hope of recovery. Afterthis I was cslled in consultation with her regular attending physician. Our opinions were, that her recovery waa impossible I learned thather disease was caused more than two years ago, from irregularity !n her periods of menstruation, caused by tak ing a se ara cold. I did not see her again, but soon after leaned that she was getting well. I wasmuch sarpriied at this, and, on inquiry as to w h:it could have caused this sudden change, was informed (by Win. M. Rittenour.) Jhat she had been taking Pr. Guysott's Extract of Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla. I have since heard of its great effects in other rases in this vicinity. I have no Inducement to make this statement, other than it may induce others afflicted as was the subject of this statement, to try the Yellow Dock and Sarsaparilla, bclievir g, ns I do, that it is possessed of many excellent qualities, sat adapted to many diseases incident to the human family.
