LOVE REQUITED.
A mother holds to her fond breast The child she loves so well, In deepest love and tenderness No human tongue can tell. -. She only knows within her heart No fathomed depth is found, The ties uniting heart to heart With strongest cords are bound. », And then, with music in its voice, The little one thus loved, With chubby arms thrown round her neck, (Its heart by love, too, moved,) Says, "Mother, dear, 1 love you."
In after years, her hair grown gray, With trembling limbs and voice, Her child now grown to manhood years, In which he can rejoice, With heart still filled with tenderness Toward her whose love for him Through all the changes time had wrought Could not erase or dim, With love-lit eyes and soothing voice, Clasps her in his embrace Again she hears the soft, sweet words, (While joy lights up her face,) Saying, "Mother, dear, 1 love you.''
