Henry Johnson, living near Eelsvilie, was operated on yes play liy Dr. G. C. Smythe and Dr. Joseph Gillespie for cancer, at &e former’s ofiice. The operation was skillfully conducted, and a

Dan Ruark, brakeman on the Yandalia morning accommodation, No. 4, lias been promoted to brakeman on the New York <k St. Louis limited. He runs from Indianapolis and St. Louis. John P. Hillis arrived home yes terday from Martinsville, where he has been assisting in a very successful revival. He left last evening for Albany, New York, where he will continue in the work . Rev. George Linebarger and wife came over from Greencastle on a visit two weeks since, and were detained by the sickness and death of Mrs. Linebarger s aunt, Mrs. Julia Donaldson, of Montezuma. They returned home Monday morning.— llockville Tribune. The damage suit of Mrs. Scott against the Big Four railroad, on trial at Greencastle, has been com tinued and a compromise is probable. A judgment of ^1000 is asked because Mrs. Scott was put olF the train a mile away from a regular station and claims if.>000. — liloiDnini)ton Telephone. The injuries received by Rev. Dr. H. J. Talbott in the Coatesville wreck on the Yandalia railroad, were much more serious than he and his wife suspected, though warned l>v Dr. Marsee, his attend ing physician, that lie would not he able to lie out before the first of March. Dr. Talbott, however, is steadily improving, and can leave his bed am. walk about his house. Conductor Bills, one of the oldest conductors on the Motion road, has resigned, the resignation taking effect tomorrow. Mr. Bills is one of the oldest railroad men of the state and began bis career as an engineer. He lias been a conductor on the Monon for thirteen years or more, and was the conduetoi who had charge of the train that was wrecked a mile north of Crawfordsville three years ago.

Fry 1ms moved from the Shaw nursery south of the city to Fox Ridge. Dr. T. C. Crawley, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Crawley, died it 7 :30 o’clock a. in. yesterday after a lingering illness of many months. Dr. Crawley was a young physician of much promise, practicing at Judson till December, when consumption, with which lie had been threatened for several years, manifested itself. The funeral will be conducted from the family residence on Fox Ridge Saturday af ternoon al two o’clock. Interment at Forest Hill.

'I’he day was allowed to pass in the usual quiet way, hut when evening eame there appeared at the home of ids father, Mr. Morris Goodwin, about twentyfive of the young people of .the neighborhood and surprised the young mail in a manner he will not forget -non. They had a most enjoyable time, laughing over the surprise and playing games. Sammy did not think it eould tie done, but his mother and some of his cousins knew a thing or two about sueli matters. There are a large number of worthless dogs roaming over the country who will be ownerless aliout April). They need a dose of cold lead. Lucy Mann, who has been quite sick, is recovering slowly. From present indications the creek will be ready to teport another wedding soon. The Higgins Creek school held appropriate exercises on Washington's birthday. There is a large number of complaints from people who had potatoes buried. A large quantity of the vegetables
