MM A.PRIL 5. I a 1 From th Bew lork Post, Tie Fashions. V This it most important day among the ladles not the great day of th' year, but pf ths first feslf of tbe year. It ia the occasion:' of tha Spring milinerj; opatn:Dg. Tba fall meaning 'of that f hras we fieecf not attempt to dsacribe to our fair readers, who have aW ready isspectea tha adornments tbat are prepared, for : them; and if any ' ef the proprietors of families do not understand lie labject, and have not anticipated the financial issue depending upon'f 'tbis festival 1 exhibition of what ia sometimes called tbe Fashiongoddess, they will learn in due season tbe facts, and at tbe tame time the consequences. The opening day is cold bat charm iog)ytri3Bt,'and the ladies are cut i a numbers Some " of the displays were made Tuesday fan4yeaterday; bnt this is the day generally recognized." There ia a greater variety of atyles this season than iusoal. .' No less 'than ten shapes, each different from the others in acme distinctive, feature, are on exhibition.' The Gipsy of to-day is not the huge Gipsy of formes times, when, as baa been said, the women wore bonnets that were bonnets, end not patches of silk with frills of lace. However, it ia not denied, that the small , bonnets are far &ete graceful Jhanithe great, uncouth-ones' that hid the faces of the wearer. - There baa been, also, a decided change in ariees.- Millinery goods of all descriptions are much cheaper than at this time last year. Ribbons, laces, tulle, etc., are from, twenty to twenty five per cent less than a year ago; 'and there is, of coarse, a corresponding- reduction in the price of bonnets, which not only the ladies,, but their liege lords who keep the parse will hail as 8 glad indication of the abetter time coming, wbeo-rthat "love of a bonnet" shall not cost the interest of a small fortune. One year ago an Wegant hat cost sixty dollars now, one made of as rich material, and as tastefully .ritaaaed, maybe purchased for forty dollars. A graceful bonnet of good material can be bought for twenty dollars, and a neat, and becoming pne for less. -" " --' - -' TBX STTLE8 OF BO KIT 8, (. . 4 't----. - ' An elegant bat is of the Charlotte Corday, model.,;- The front and barolet are of fine jfrenoh chip, with soft crown of tulle boallionee, edged with narrow guipure, Clun laoe. ' Across the center of tbe crown is laid a wide barbe of the aame laee, festooned with a silver chain, which depends at the ears. On the front rests a- garland of wild flowers, battercops, blus bella, and - Violets, all sparkling with dewdrops. '' ; , ' A carriage bat is made of a new' material purple crape. argent. Tbe Crown la formsd of narrow folds of white m allots and covered by a long and lull Illusion 'veil,1 edged with silver -coid. This," doaely ' plaited over the crown; bangs loosely, flowing lover' the shoulders, and is attacbsd to the front by a wreath" of golden-hoed autumn leaves and purple grapes. A silver cord crosses tbe eape. f.Tbe bandeaux are of illusion and silver oord, and the strings' of pari pie Uffeta.Jwer fastened by a silver filagree broaci,; .,. ... .. ...s . - : h " Tbe gipsy opoa bonnet is novel, and tha milhneTS pronounce it diitingue. It is composed of white tulle, and the narrow front and curtain is covered -with rich black Chantillr lace. ' The full soft , crown is trelKsed in diamonds, - with silver tissue trimming, edged . witbblack chanilte. Fes toons ot jet chains wttn cameos are dropped, bom rthe-. crnpe, nside are bandeatfx or maize crepe violets and jet hainf.,, , -n. Perhaps the most chaste hat of all, . and the one most admired, was tbe CbapeaU' Gab'rieU , It is a snow-white; . French chip of the new model' Around the center is laid a garland of UUos, intsrmiCgled with white, cape jessamines, with diamond center. ' The strings of white took antique. Tbe Chaperone bat is made of white ' tails shirred, and the edge being trimmed witb swan's town and a row of pearl pendente' Toe inside trimming is formed of a tulle fluting at. the aides of a wreath of, green leaves at the top. . A blue ribbon-' rosette on one side is offset on the other with a graceful bow. The inside trimm.ni is very neat and pretty, consisting, of. apache of blue ribbon, with a velvet band of the same shade, on which rests a sinele paisv. ; Instead of a bow a cluster of daisies are used to fasten the strings, and they have a pretty neet, t. ; The Eugeute ia made without a crown, "having four bands, surmounted with the lilly f.thivvaUey," passing 'in curved liaes from sice to side, which will rest Vrscefulir apon the coil of bair. - Tbe bat is made of maice crape, with white moliretalle veil attached. - Inside is a scarut velvet oana. on wnicn is a wreath of the.lilly of the valley. A pheasant tealner is attached to the side, and a white aigrette leather in front. ! The Biarrix hat is trimmed with an aigrette feather and blue velvet rosettes. Among the hats is a Leghorn, with a wreath of straw colored leaves, and bads bear tbe edge, besides a fall of rich black lace. A sorav of delicate flowers is fastened to one side by a jet horse shoe and a similar ornament is used for fasttninff the strings. Stilt tilly lace, with a black ; chain passing three times over the top, and , falling over loops of green ribbon. The strings are green, and the front is ornamented with wax ' tulips of a delicate hue, and almost transparent. I Tasteful coiffures to suit all fanoies are : also oa exhibition. : One 4s composed entirely of roses and hanging rose buds; another is decorated witb black and white crystal chainsv , L j JHooutiis aoKMira - : .,. , j There is H variety , 'of mourning bonhets, and some of them are very handsome. The leading style of the round hat the com' ing summer will be the "yacht' shape, like that of a sailor's hat Some are actually covered with tarpolin, aad are called the japaned bat The derwent shape is not to graceful as the yacht, but will no doubt be much 'worn, by ladies at tbe seaside, as the brim protects the face and eyes from the sua. A novelty is a sailor shape, pamela braid, covered with a frosting cf silver. ' Crystal chains, both black and white, will be used in trimming the round bats. " ' l Tbe long veil wilt stilt be worn for the faoe; and tbe smalt mask veil which, was formerly ia os is now attached to the back of the bonnet, and falls over the coil of bair.
