All the dwellings of Union citizens in the npper part of the city glared with brightness, many making very bandsome displays. Dr. C. C. All through Lamasco, and indeed in every part of the city near which tba procession passed, large cambers of the neat though bumble dwellings of mechanics and laboring men ware illuminated, ahowing bow deeply all partook oi the common joy. It was impossible for us to obtain the names of all who thus manifested their participation in the. glorification, and indeed we have lingered too long on tbis subject, for already the blazing column of patriots, large numbers of whom were aoldit-ra in blue, ia marching by tba Journal office, which is greeted with deafening cheers; and we must hasten to the Wigwam, if we desire to see the Culmination of this grand procession. There is a huge boti-fire blazing on the river bank, at tbe foot of Walnut street to Sight us on the way, while the air is thick with balla from Koman candles and rockets, bursting and dashing like shooting meteors. Let os seat oarselvcs here on tbe rostrnm and read tha inscriptions on tke transparencies aa they enter, no alight task, indeed, as they mingle, so together, and are ao numerous that we fear we aball sadly confuse tbem, and perhaps overlook aeme entirely. T rr l-Z I. EGRAPIl. Pwrpertcd Letter of A. H. Slrpbeaa. New Yoke, Oct 15. A letter, purporting to have been written by Alexander H. Stephens, of Georgia, tbe rebel Vice President, in reply to a Setter from several of bis fallow-citizens, !3 published. He says: No person more ardently desires an end to tbe war than be does, but it is not in hia power to bring it about He said the recognition of the sovereignty of tbe States is the only solution of tba trouble. Tbe idea of maintaining the old Union, or any Union, by force ia preposterous. The subjugation of tb& south by tbe North would involve tbe destruction of the Constitution and tbe overthrow of their liberties as well aa oars. Any peace growing out of a Union of Statea established by force will bt aa ruinous to tbem as to us. The action of the Chicago Convection, so far as its platform of principles, presents a ray of light, which, under Providence, may prove the dawn to thi long and eiienriesa night To a Convention of the States to adjust our difficulties, I have no objection.
