We understand that it is the intention of tha Council to order tha electioi at its ses&un on Monday evening next.' The necessity for an early election of. Mayor as already been so clearly demonstrated through our columns, that we need not urge that point now. The onlyijuestiin is, will the Council take ttaps at its next meeting to enab'o the city to select an offic3r who can legally discharge the duties of Mayer? It' is- high time usurpation was rebukod. If the peoi pie do not desire to have their city affairs targbd in a lot of costly lawaits, they will sea to it that tbefjounoil, at its next meeting," orders an election. and to that exteatat l.st, do their part toward relieving.tbe cry of its present unfortunate condition. The liesult. We have returns from all but five counties, but many.cf them, are mere estimates. Tho result is stil doubtful. The contest is very close in the Fourth District, but our advices give the advantage to Judge Wilson. The Ninth District is also in doubt, but General Shanks; is most probably eleoted' by a small majority. The Legislature is also , in doubt, The most favorable calculation for the Democracy make the Senate a tie.and give a majority of from five to eight in the Lower House. We do not concede them this. ' ?The political complexion of the Geueral Assembly cannot easily be determined; but it is, by no means uncertain that the Republicans will not control -both branches. The suspense will not be continued much longer aai to the State tioket, for the oHieial votes will noon be reported from every county. The five counties not heard from are Adams, Elkhart, Perry. 8-arke and Warrick. Indianapolis Journal.' We copy tho above from the Journa? of yesterday.
