By Monday Mall. to , . . . . , The Astronomical Soeiety of Cincinnati, at recent meeting, determined to move the ' . - .. . ... tn Observatory from its present position to r r some point oaca oi me city on me hub.The reason for this is, that no observation can be taken from the present Observatory ' on account of the smoke. Prof. Mitchell : stated that, on a recent visit of a couple of distinguished astronomers, the instrument was turned in the direction of certain well known stars, bat they could not be seen for the smoke. Mr A. B. Coleman, for the past eight years proprietor of the Burnet House, Cincinnati, has retired. Hereafter, the house will be conducted by Messrs. Samuel Johnson, (late bookkeeper of the establish men t,) Thomas P. Saunders, of St. Louis, and Hus9U Potter, of Hamilton, Ohio. Elder James M. Mathes, for many years editor of the Christian Record, published at Indianapolis, has retired from that post, and is succeeded by ths Rev. Elijah Goodwin. The Record will continue to be published at Indianapolis. Saturday last, was the day appointed by law for the election of magistrates and constables, in Kentucky. Considerable interest was manifested iu the result, as an indication of how the State election would go in August next. A lady on board the steam- r Alvin Adams, stepped overboard while the boat was laying at the landing at Lonisville, on Thursday night Inst, and Moated down the stream some distance before she was rescued. Her hoops alone saved her from being drownad. That was an instance in which hoops proved fully as useful as they are ornamental. The Chicago Democrat says Senator Douglas autobiography is almost out of pre--, and adds, " it is said to tie the besl thing the Senator has ever written. The European correspondent of the New Albany Tribune, pays a well desened compliment to the hospitality and popularity of our minister at Berlin -Ev-Gorernor Wright. The writer states that he has called ou five American Ministers on bis route, aud all the good qualities tie could discover in the whole of fhem, would not balance those of the Hoosier Minister. The Governor invited him to breakfast, and treated the gentlemen to Buckwheat cakes and molasses, whi h, no doubt, in part accounts for the visitor's admiration. He says he found plenty of assumed dinit in other American officials, but in the Governor, he (bund the pure article itself.
