HAVINGS BANKS.—From the papers on ^filein the office of the Auditor of State, it appears that under the act of the last Legislature, authorizing the incorporation of savings banks, four institutions of that nature have been organized, being located at Terre Haute, Fort Wayne, Lafayette and South Bend. The January reports of two of these banks, tho one at Terre

Haute and the one at Lafavette, have been received at the State Auditor's office, showing that in each considerable busin«8 has been transacted since their or-, ganUation.—Tnd. Sentinel*

Frcnch Grammar. —Wo began to study French a few weeks ago, and we have now arrived at a series of sentences which have to be translated. Here area few from Leeon Premeire "Have you the silver goblet?" "No, I have not the silver goblet, but I have the king's nightcap."

burnt hia finger. If any imbecility superior to this ex ists anywhere in the wide, wide world, we should like to come across it. If tve had to get up a French grammar we would invent a few such sentences as the following, combining flippant humor with sterling sense and valuable information: "Have you seen the aurora-boreaiis? "No, but I have a vellow bull-terrier with a stump-tail, and I am acquainted with Horace Greeley." "Is your mother a Fenian? or does she take in washing?" "Yes, but his glass eye revolves on a pivot, and oysters are better with horseradish." "Have you thrown the brick, or did you blow your nose?" "No, I cannot love the cook, but my first cousin has a black eye." "Does the porcupine liowl for his daily bread?" "I think he will if he hears the tearful wail of the sorrowftil flea, and the blueeyed gazelle ratifies the Fifteenth Amendment." "Have you four dollers a week, or does your little sister Arabella chew gum?" "No, but my umbrella is burglar-proof, and I am lonely to-night, love, without you." "Does your uncle wear suspenders, or do you prefer your fried sausage without trinchinte?" "I have not but my beastly mother-in-law has no teeth, and she has bought an albata teapot at auction." "Does the ichthyosaurian alligator sigh for the pelican, or have you no small change about you?" "Yes, but he wears two clean shirts a week, and professes to be a bald-headed Presbyterian."

Are you a constitutional jackass, or have you never studied French grammar before?"

No, but I've studied economy: therefore buy all my dry goods at the Buckeye.Cash Store, Mam, corner Sixth street.

IMPORTANT I

The attention of Hardware Denim, Car and Jfottie Buildtri and owner* is respectfully invited to the PATENT NEVER FAILING SELF-LOCKING "WINDOW PAST."

This is decidedly the best and most important invention of modorn times. Its simiuicity and wonderful adaption both for HOUSE and CAR WINDOWS is perfectly nstonishine accomplishing everything that can possibly be desired, and yet being cheaper than any other window fast. For house windows it dispenses with weights and pullys, operating 'equally well on top and bottom sash, allowing either to be railed or lowered as much or little as wished.to seenre ventilation, and yet be locked securely at every point, from the intruder or burglar, and will never get out of order. It has the peculiar element of locking itself in whatever position you leave it.. For steam or horse car^ windows they are finished in a variety of styles, making an elegant finish to the car windows, and the only arrangement ever introduced that can never fail.
