Vooationa! 'Director Briggs Eccommends Some Changes In &s Department.

Teachers tnr the grade schouls, the high schools and the vocational schools of the city, to serve during the school year of l9lS-1919, tvere selected at a special meeting of the board of school trustees held In the Administration building Monday evening. The teachers for the grade and high schools were selected on the recommendation ot Superintendent Charles J. Waits, while those for the two vocational schools were selected on the recommendation of Vocational Director Herbert Briggs.

Sarah Pence was the only new teneher employed by the board for the coming school year. The. resignation of Doyne Koonce, former science instructor at Wiley high school, was accepted* The following teachers were granted retirement: Alice J. Lawrence, Clova A. Lawrence, Elizaoeth4 Katsenbach and Anna Ruohl. The following teachers asked for retirement with the maximum annuity: Mignonette Vermillion, Frances M. Beach, Matilda Straus and Jane Farnham.

Acgust H. Albrecht was granted a leave of absence for a year, or for such time as should be required by his military services. Mr. A]brecht,enlered the government service about 'st- month afro and his unlimited leave was granted on the recommendation o£ Vocational Director Briggs.

Three other recommendations.of Mr. Briggs,-also concurred in by theboard. On© was that the selection of certain teachers for the vocational work fee Referred until an agreement had been reached between the local board and the state board of education in regard to certain courses of study for the vocational schools. Another was that the salaries of the vocational teachers be adjusted to the eight hour day by a ccmmitt je, and the third was that the lecture committee of the Indiana State Kormal lecture course be requested to have at least one number j1"""

Terre Haute Men Indicted at Sullivan

Stealing Automobile and Tires.

Thompson were arrested and taken to Sullivan at 5 o'clock Monday afternoon on warrants from .Sullivan county, charging the thefts of a Ford automobile and tires to the value of $1,006, the property of Ben Bolinger.

The arrests were made by Deputy Sheriff Brodie of Sullivan anVl Sergeants Deer and Moon of the Terre Haute police force. enbaker accompanied the men to Sullivan to arrange bonds In the court there.

The robberies for which the men are indicted are alleged to have been committed almost one year ago. The tires were later recovered and, according to the officers, were positively identified by the owner. Two other men are said to be wanted in connection with thefts.
