NEWS OF STOCK MARKET.
NEW YORK, Dec. 21.—Shares of some of the leading eastern railways were heavy in today's early ana na-J-row session of the stock markel. The anthracite issues, namely Reading £-nJ Lehigh Valley, were down 1 points, falling' under last week's low prices,
f»resumably
Prices continued to drop during the morning on almost the smallest overturn reported since market operations were resumed. Reading and Lehigh "Valley extended their losses, the f°r" mer declining 2% while Baltimore & Ohio and several ether speculative favorites fell under or approached their lower records. A sale of 1,OUO stoel at its recent low quotation was one of the few features. Bonds were easy.
The closing was weak. Concentrated selling of Steel sent the entire list to its lowest average in the final 'inur. Steel declined to 49%, or within la points of its minimum.

as a result of a sharp cut
coal rates ordered by the Pennsylvania public service commission. Pennsylvania and Southern Pacific lost fractions, as did Great Northern and United States Steel. Unimportant gains -vere made by General Ele.ctric and Republic Steel. Amalgamated Copper, which showed some strength at the outset soon yielded and the whole market relapsed Into dullness.

CHICAGO BOAED OF TBADE.
CHICAGO, Dec. 21.—Prospect of a big decrease of a stock of wheat in Chicago and of a heavy falling off in the United States visible supply total made the market today rapidly advance.
After opening off the up the market rose all the way from 1% to 2% compared with Saturday night.
The close was unsettled, %@%c to l%c net higher. It took but little buying to lift corn. Rural offers were light .but tho strength was mainly owing to the wheat bulge. The opening range of from a shade to higher was followed by much higher prices all around.
The close was nervous at %@%c to %©%c net advance. dats climbed with other cereals. Trj.de, though, lacked volume. Commission hOXises were active buyers of provisions and carried the market up Sn almost as quick time as grain. For the time being the price of pigs was ignored.
