Walter Sittmann spent Wednes day in Bluffton. Word has been received here that If. H. Lanimiman of Atlanta. Fla., underwent a major operation at the St. Agnes hospital. Broad and McKean streets in Philadelphia. Pa. His condition is reported as satisfactory, but he will remain there for another week. His son. Don. is with him. Mr and Mrs. Ray Meyers and sons returned home Sunday from Corpus Christi. Tex., where they visited with Mr. and Mrs. Lawr ence Barkley. Mrs. Kathryn Bair of Bourbon spent Labor Day with friends here Her daughter, Beverly, accompanied her home after spending the past week with Mr. and Mrs. V. Aurand ami Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Strickler. Dr Gerald 11. Jones, minister of the First Methodist church, is attending the eighth annual Methodist 'school of the prophets meeting on the Purdue campus at Lafayette. This six day pastor's school Is the second largest school of Its kind In the United States The Wren. 0., high school band won first place In the class C band contest at the Paulding county fair. Miss Barbara Weaver won the bluq ribbon in the drum major contest. The band has appeared here frequently. Mrs. Bess Erwin left this morning for Tuscola. 111., where she will visit with friends for a few days. Doyle Funeral Rites Held At Fairmount Funeral services were held at Fairmount this week for Mrs. Culver Doyle, who died Saturday at a Marion hospital. She had been in poor health for five years. Surviving are a daughter. Mrs. Harry Craw, of Fairmount, with whom Mrs. Dovh made her home after her husband's death in January: two sons. Virgil W. of Decatur and Kenneth L of Fairmount; two grandchildren and four sisters. More Winners At State Fair Listed One first place award, one third and placements were added laurels won by Adams county entries at the Indiana sta'e fair, according to an announcement made by officials. Identification Cards For Census Takers Enumerators employed by the U. 8. census bureau carry Identification cards, supervisor Louis B Basheller of Fort Wayne, announced today, as plans were completed for taking a cross-section survey in Decatur to obtain Information on employment and unemployment. Mr. Basheller pointed out that all of the current population sur vey enumerators, as well as all other census enumerators, carry identification cards and have heen instructed to present these creden tlals at the start of each interview Persons claiming to represent the census bureau should not be fur nished information unless they produce Identification cards. Mr Basheller said. The September current populs tion survey will be conducted In Allen and Adams counties by a sirtall number of census interviewers during the week of September 12. Supervisor Basheller pointed out that all individual Information furnished to the census bureau is treated as confidential under federal law.

$400,000 Fire Loss At Beloit, Wisconsin Beloit. Wia.. Sept R. - (UP)— Firemen from two communities fought for six hours today to put out a fire that destroyed the two story factory of the Tecknlcraft Co. at an estimated loss of over 1400.000.
