W’e don't mind getting election returns for a day or two but when it stretches out into weeks, it’s tough on everybody. The election returns knocked' Dewey, Murphy, Curley, Sawyer. Earle, LaFollette and many others ' out of the spot news. — Gray days indicate winter is near. Get ready for it now. Don’t wait until the cold blasts blow so . strong that you are uncomfortable. The Republicans seem to be more anxious to donate for the recount than they were for the campaign. showing that there is a difference in how they are approached. The historical markers now be-1 ing placed over this county should be of much interest in the years to come and French Quinn deserves great credit for the effort he has given the work. Republicans are flirting with crackpot pension schemes. They are faced with the extremely difficult problem in 1940 of promising the people something the present ; administration Ist already giving them.—By Olin Miller. We still remind you that those who are opposing the New Deal have announced no plans, have nothing definite to offer and will probably devote their time to conservative methods that will be far from helpful to the ordinary individual. Until such time | as these men can be employed by j industry public work must be pro- ' ■ tided to keep them busy, Any ' I other plan will cause a real prob- ' lent. Os course it’s wise to do what- : ever is necessary to have the Krick-Tyndall plant rebuilt. It adds to the tax duplicate, provides I work for several score of men, ! means another good Industry to the town, adds to the total of in ' and out shipments, helps to make ! Decatur a better town and that | i helps every one in the community. In 1926 Albert Stump came within a few thousand votes of defeating Senator James E. Watson. It i I encouraged the workers in the | I Democratic party and they made : great plans for 1928 but in that election the Republicans carried ’ the state by 296,000. You can t tell in advance about an election in Indiana. They skip around about as they please here. The hundreds of Adams county friends of James J. Moran of I’ortland, are leased with his appointment as judge of the Jay circuit - court. He is experienced, having ' served in that same position some i • years ago, as well as on the appel- ' ' late bench, deserving from a polit-, ' ical standpoint and in every way qualified. He will serve until after I the next general election in 1940 i under his commission. The Democrats will have 262 ' members of congress in the next session while the Republicans will ■ t I have 170. There will be two ProI gressives and one Farmer-Labor-ite. In the senate there will be t 69,Democrats, 23 Republicans, two I Farmer Lafeorites. one Progressive : and one Independent, which still gives the administration sufficient strength to carry on their program designed to help the people. , The west ward school is being i torn down and the north ward i building will soon be razed. Hun , dreds of pictures have been taken i of these buildings the past week : or two, to be preserved by those ' who attended school in these I places and who will always remember those as the happiest days , of their lives. The students are being taken care of in the building formerly occupied by the high I ; school. The G. O. P. press is showing a partisan and unfair attitude in threatening contests with which they include charges that they know are untrue. It looks as though the official vote will be ' , necessary to decide who has been , elected to state offices and in due ; time that of course will be an- 1 nounced. So far as can be learned I the election was clean and fair and there is probably as much chance I for the Democrats to increase their ) leads,as tor the Republicans. The annual Red Cross dinner will be held at Monroe tonight al ; 6:30 at which time plans will be made for the years' work. It is ' as we all know one of the great- ' est organizations in the world and each year give relief to many thousands who live in districts or cities where catasthrophes occur.
