Third straight triumph for CBS
LOS ANGELES (AP) - CBS’ “Dallas” regained first place from ABC’s “Dynasty” and two compelling movies, about teenage suicide and a nun who quits her order, were high in the Nielsen ratings for the past week. “Dallas,” knocked out of first place for two weeks by the troubles of the Carrington family on “Dynasty,” came in first for the week ended Nov. 4. CBS’ “Silence of the Heart,” which told of a teen-age suicide and the impact on his family, tied for fourth in the ratings. NBC’s “Shattered Vows,” about a young nun whose unspoken love for a priest and desire for a family drove her to quit her order before her final vows, was sixth. CBS was first in the A.C. Nielsen Co. survey with a network average of 16.3. NBC was second with 15.7 and ABC was third with 15.3. The networks say this means that in an average prime-time minute. 16.3 percent of the audience was tuned to CBS. It was the third straight week the networks had finished in the same order.
New for'SAIL'?
Now that “Saturday Night Live” has started its 16th year on NBC, some of the new members were asked what they will bring to the show. Martin Short said he’ll do impersonations. Christopher Guest said he’ll bring "a delightful sensitivity.” Billy Crystal said, “I’m bringing Chris.” Yes, but what do you intend to do, he was asked 9 “I intend to stay for more than two weeks,” Billy said.

YOUNG LOVE Dave and Maggie (Scott Holmes and Cali Timmins) embrace on a windswept beach on “Ryan’s Hope,” airing weekdays on ABC.
The five lowest-ranked shows this week in descending order were: NBC’s “Hunter,” CBS’ "AfterMASH” (canceled), NBC’s “Hot Pursuit,” CBS’ “Dreams” (taken off the air), and ABC’s “Jessie.” CBS had no trouble keeping its lead among the evening news shows. It had a rating of 13.0, followed by ABC with 12.2 and NBC with 11.2. Here are the top 10 shows of the week: 1. “Dallas,” CBS, a rating of 27.1 or 23.0 million households. 2. “Dynasty,” ABC, 24.9 or 21.1 million. 3. “60 Minutes,” CBS, 22.8 or 19.3 million. 4. Tie-“ Falcon Crest,” 21.9 or 18.5 million. 4. Tie-Movie-“Silence of the Heart,” CBS, 21.9 or 18.5 million. 6. Movie-“ Shattered Vows,” NBC, 21.3 or 18.0 million. 7. “The A-Team,” NBC, 21.2 or 17.9 million. 8. “The Cosby Show,” NBC, 20.0 or 16.9 million. 9. “Hotel,” ABC, 19.9 or 16.8 million. 10. Movie-“ Best Little Whorehouse in Texas,” ABC, 19.6 or 16.6 million.
They are among the five new additions to the cast which Executive Producer Dick Ebersol brought in to refresh the show. “SNL” premiered in 1975 with low ratings. The audience began to build over the next few months “Today.” Ebersol observes, “the audience doesn’t give you that time to succeed. So we decided to go after five established people instead of newcomers.”
