Carthage College outscored Butler 14-0 in the two final events to spring into the championship of the 15-team DePauw University invitational track meet Saturday in Blackstock Stadium. With three new meet and two stadium records under its belt, Butler appeared to have the championship sew ed up after leading the field all day

long.

Trailing 45-36, Carthage picked up 11 points in the discus out of a possible 16 and then grabbed three more points in the mile relay. That burst showed the Wisconsin school from a 36-45 deficit into the five point final victory, 50-45. Butler’s Phil Cox, Indiana Mr. Basketball a year ago, set a meet and stadium record in the high jump. He sailed 6-9 % to beat the old mark of 6-8.
